The Honourable Justice Michael Walton was sworn-in as a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 8 December 2016. His Honour graduated with a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Sydney in May 1979 and completed a fourth year Honours thesis on Shearers’ Communities, before working at the Australian Workers Union and the Gas Industry Salaried Officers Federation. This keen interest in industrial relations and advocacy resulted in his Honour attaining a Bachelor of Legal Studies from Macquarie University in 1987, being called to the Bar in 1989. His Honour was appointed a Judge and Vice President of the Industrial Relations Commission in December 1998, before being appointed President in 2014.
