The Honourable Justice Julia Lonergan was sworn in as a Judge of the common law Division of the Supreme Court of NSW on 21 March 2017. Her Honour graduated from the University of Sydney in 1983 with a Bachelor of Laws and commenced practice in 1983. In 1986 her Honour also obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Macquarie University. Before being called to the NSW Bar in 1997, her Honour practised as a solicitor for 13 years, the first 3 years in general practice and the following 10 years in insurance litigation. Her Honour specialised at the Bar in medical negligence, inquests and commissions of inquiry. In 2012 her Honour took silk. During her 20 years as a barrister, her Honour conducted advocacy coaching for the Bar Readers Course for 10 years, served on the Common Law and Equal Opportunity Committees and as a member of Bar Council, and chaired one of the Bar Association’s Professional Conduct Committees.
