Justice Deborah Sweeney

The Honourable Justice Deborah Sweeney was sworn-in as a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 8 February 2023. Her Honour excelled in arts and law at the University of New South Wales, and joined the Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions as a solicitor in 1984. Her Honour then joined the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for New South Wales in 1995 before being appointed as a Magistrate the following year. In 2006 she was sworn in as a Judge of the District Court where she spent 17 years overseeing many complex and challenging criminal cases. Her Honour is the first woman in NSW to have served on all courts in NSW: Local, District and now Supreme.
