Music Festival Searches
Starting Monday 5 May, Justice Dina Yehia will preside over a 20 day hearing into the Music Festival Searches class action in Court 10E (Sydney). The class action was lodged by plaintiff Raya Meredith. Otherwise known as a “representative proceeding”, the class action is on behalf of all people alleging they were unlawfully strip-searched for prohibited substances by police officers at NSW music festivals between 22 July 2016 and 22 July 2022.
Documents lodged in this matter can be accessed below. The plaintiff will be represented by Kylie Nomchong SC and A H Edwards (instructed by Slater and Gordon Lawyers) while the State of New South Wales is represented by Julian Sexton SC (instructed by Makinson d'Apice Lawyers).
The Music Festival Searches class action opening addresses will be livestreamed from 10 am this Monday (5 May) via the Supreme Court’s YouTube channel.
