Otherwise known as a “representative proceeding”, the class action was lodged by plaintiff Raya Meredith on behalf of all people alleging they were unlawfully strip-searched for prohibited substances by police officers at NSW music festivals between 22 July 2016 and 22 July 2022.
The class action was heard from 5 May 2025 over 5 days. The plaintiff was represented by Kylie Nomchong SC and A H Edwards (instructed by Slater and Gordon Lawyers) while the State of New South Wales was represented by Julian Sexton SC (instructed by Makinson d'Apice Lawyers).
