The revised Practice Note commenced on 10 September 2026.

Application

This Practice Note applies to all civil proceedings in the Common Law Division, General Civil List and does not apply to matters in the following lists:

• the professional negligence list;
• the possession list;
• the administrative law list;
• the institutional abuse list;
• the defamation list; and
• the representative action list.

Amendments

The revised Practice Note seeks to ensure that matters are listed for directions and judicial case management at fixed points in the lifecycle of a matter and that hearing dates are allocated at an early stage. It also introduces standard forms of order.

Introduction

The purpose of this Practice Note is to outline the case management practices of the Common Law Division in civil proceedings and the General Case Management List.
